Worm castings (vermicompost) are the highest quality organic fertilizer known to science. They outperform regular compost in NPK content, microbial diversity, plant growth hormones, and enzyme activity — in every metric.
Why Worm Castings Are Superior
Earthworm digestion does not just decompose organic matter — it transforms it through enzymatic processes in the worm gut:

Worm Tea
Worm tea is made by steeping castings in water — extracting and multiplying the biological activity:
Simple method:
- Place 1 kg castings in cloth bag
- Steep in 20 L water for 24 hours (stir occasionally)
- Remove bag, apply liquid immediately
With aeration (AACT method):
- Add molasses, aerate 24 hours — multiplies bacteria 100x
- Much more potent than simple steep
Application rate: 10–20 L per ha as foliar or soil spray.
Making Vermicompost — Quick Overview
Key parameters:
- Container: Concrete bed 1m × 2m × 0.5m (or windrow)
- Worm species: Eisenia fetida (Red wigglers) or Perionyx excavatus (Indian Blue)
- Bedding: Pre-composted cow dung + coir pith (50:50)
- Feed: 5–10 cm layer every 7–10 days
- Moisture: 60–70% (wrung sponge test)
- Temperature: 15–30°C (shade essential in summer)
- Cycle time: 45–60 days per batch
